To celebrate the bicentenary of the musical genius, Beethoven, we are digging deep into his extraordinary symphony, ‘The Eroica.’ This, his 3rd Symphony, is widely described as a groundbreaking and heroic masterpiece that changed western classical music, forever. As a composer he is often described as the one who bridged the classical and romantic eras, and this iconic symphony is one such example. Conductor Karina Cannelakis decodes what this troubled and oftentimes poorly with ill health, (he was almost profoundly deaf when composing this) composer wanted to bring to the audience with this music, and also how his personal circumstances influenced his composition. With selected key musicians from the orchestra sections, they lift the score from the page and help us to decipher what this powerful piece of music, actually means.
